The 53-year-old man said, “I was really scared to go in there with all that smoke. But God put me there to save those animals.”

The fire started in the W-Underdogs shelter’s kitchen, and while the building wasn’t completely destroyed, it was left uninhabitable. Luckily, they were only a week away from moving into their new facility in Atlanta.

The shelter’s founder, Gracie Hamlin, previously knew Keith Walker because he has a pit bull named Bravo whom she allows to stay at the shelter every night. Keith was on his way to pick Bravo up when he saw the fire. “He is my hero,” Gracie said.
