Officer Says Goodbye To Former K9 Partner And Loving Pet, Axel

Respects are being paid as the Central Falls Police Department and surrounding community mourns the loss of retired K9 Axel. The senior dog was a great worker and amazing parter to his handler, Officer Decristoforo.

The two weren’t just coworkers and sidekicks, they shared a bond that only grew as time passed. When Axel got to the age to retire, the dog was adopted into Decristoforo’s home to live out his golden years as his loving pet for five years.

“The bond between a Police k9 and his partner can never be broken, not even in death. K9 Axel may no longer be physically at Officer Decristoforo’s side, but he will forever be watching over him, and in his own way making sure he ends each shift safely just as he did when they were out there together keeping the streets safe!” a fellow officer said on the Friends of Central Falls Animals Facebook page.

“I want him to know that he gave Axel the best life and friendship that he’s ever had!” he continued. “They were very lucky to have each other in life, and Axel will still be watching over him. Axel loved you more than he loved himself! That’s just the type of dog he was. He was yours! He would have done anything for you. Now he needs you to do something for him! Stay strong and try and remember he wouldn’t want to see you upset!”

Our thoughts are with Officer Decristoforo during this difficult time. May Axel rest in peace.
