Druzhok means “Little Friend” in Russian. This past summer, a loving mutt named Druzhok showed just how loyal of a friend he could be to his family. He is part of the Andreev household in the Amur region of Russia. He is a compassionate pet even though he has a strong sense of freedom.
If he wants to run around, no chain will stop him. He will break it and run away. And when he’s had enough he comes and shows his neck like he’s saying, “Leash me, I’m ready.”
But, this loyal dog showed his family just how much he cared for them when their town was overtaken by flood waters.
When the Andreev’s town became flooded, they took their dog and went to stay with friends.
On the third morning there, Druzhok disappeared. They went looking for him…
And found him guarding their house.
Rescue workers in the area said that Druzhok wouldn’t let anyone into the house and refused to leave the front step. He was on guard duty.
When he saw his family, however, he eagerly left his post and swam toward them.
“It’s deep here. He couldn’t run, he had to swim. The dog stood on the top step of the porch in the cold water all night.
“We sailed into the yard and saw him. He was standing there and trembling, and wouldn’t move away from his place. But when he saw us he was so happy. We took him into the boat and he rushed to lick us. We all were so happy.”
Friends watch out for friends, but hopefully Druzhok chose to stay dry with his family instead of checking on the house from that point forward. 😉
