Intruders Break In House, Shoot Dog Three Times As He Protects His Human

A German Shepherd named Rex is being hailed a hero, and for good reason. The dog put his life on the line to save his 16-year-old human brother, Javier, when two thieves broke into their home in Washington state.

Q13 Fox News reported that Rex and Javier were home alone when the robbers broke in, and the two hid in a bedroom closet while on the phone with the police. And Rex refused to back down.

Javier’s aunt later wrote online that the dog confronted the intruders who responded by attacking him.

“Rex stormed back to the upstairs floor all beat up and bloody from the beating to check on his master who was still hiding in the closet,” Susy Cadena wrote. “Soon, the burglars proceeded to the upstairs floor and trashed all the bedrooms. As they entered the room where my nephew was hiding in the closet, Rex came out with the little strength he had left in him and threw himself at them as he knew my nephew was in danger.”

The thieves shot at Rex hitting him at least three times before fleeing the scene. Javier remained unharmed. But now Rex entered the fight of his life.

Rex was rushed to BluePearl Veterinary Clinic once authorities arrived. The dog was stabilized, but the surgery to save his life would be an expensive procedure. Rex’s family wouldn’t be able to afford it on their own. But hundreds of strangers decided to help out.

Susy started a GoFundMe page with a goal of $10,000 to help pay for Rex’s medical bills. In just a few days, more than $60,000 had been collected!

Rex underwent the surgery needed to save his life, and it was a success! After a few days, the dog was okayed for release. He went back home to be with the people who love him most to continue his recovery.

It’d take more time and a lot of therapy, but Rex improved greatly. The dog is being hailed a hero and has proven he’s quite the fighter, so he’s never one to be counted out! Amazing. 🙂
